Anti-Semitism is the new black

My second piece for the New Statesman is here. It’s also the no. 2 post over the last couple of days appearing in the Most Popular section on the NS site.

  1. Many conflate supporting Palestine with denouncing Israel. I, for one, see no problem with a 2 state solution. As for anti-semitism "there is a lot of it about".

  2. Indeed. A two-state solution is what almost any sensible person wants. I support Palestine and also support Israel. I don't support the PSC or Viva Palestina because I strongly object to their methods.

  3. I used to be (quasi) pro PSC and fellow travellers as I thought we could get change effected with them on board, a broad alliance of the left. My last conversation with them convinced me they are either daft or evil.

  4. Right decision. I think many people have supported them with the best of intentions – the Palestinians need champions in the UK, after all – but the best hope for the Palestinian cause is a future without the PSC. They have shown themselves unfit.

  5. With Islamophobia on the rise (did you see Al Jazeera's doc last night?) they will get sympathisers, as you say there is nowt wrong with supporting Palestine and human rights, it all falls down with "Kill The Jews!"

  6. No, didn't see it, but as I've written here before, *both* anti-Semitism and Islamophobia are on the rise. However, while pretty much all mainstream organisations ostracise the EDL and the BNP, who are at the heart of Islamophobia, there is certainly no such universality in the reaction against anti-Semitism.
