My seventeenth piece for the Independent, on Labour’s political death wish, otherwise known as the election of Jeremy Corbyn as its leader, is here. For the record, I think this could well be my most-read piece ever, with over 6,000 Facebook shares, so quite pleased with it.

A Facebook share does not always mean your comment is liked or agreed with. As a member of the British public not a member of the Labour party I find this article and other items you have written offensive. Centre left in your case appears to be equally centre right. So perhaps you would feel more comfortable voting Conservative next time?

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to live with your taking offence. It must be quite exhausting for you, going around taking offence at everything.
TBH – I don't support Labour at all (though I was perhaps almost 'bi-curious' under Blair) but I think this is an awful situation.
Comrade Corbyn is a fool and his supporters deluded, malign, or just silly. But they are not the biggest deluded fools in British politics – that prize goes to ‘Tories for Corbyn’. Anyone who thinks that actually destroying the Labour party would be good thing, presumably because they believe in the possibility and desirability of permanent Conservative government, is a) a cretin and b) not actually a conservative, but a reckless radical trying to achieve dramatic and imprudent change in our country’s political settlement.
I'm fairly conservative (although wouldn't dream of joining the party of that name), and I think that the Labour party is a hugely important national institution, whose current parlous condition jeopardises the political stability of the country and the future of the union.
thank sir for your post

Indeed. The Tories who voted for Corbyn are also forgetting that the Leader of the Opposition can have infuence at critical times, as we saw with the Syria vote.
